Pens Unique
My name is David Shepherdson. My Father has been a Wood Turner for many years and it was through him that my interest was aroused. Following a long career in the Royal Air Force I am now working as a Caretaker at a local school in Buckinghamshire. I started wood turning in 1997 and since then I have concentrated my efforts almost entirely on pens, continually developing the styles of pen and varieties of woods and other materials that I use.
I find Wood Turning is an extremely relaxing pastime. It is a constant revelation and pleasure to take a raw piece of timber and transform it into a thing of beauty. My Father once said “Wood is one of the only things that dies and then comes back to life” How true that is, as the real characteristics of the wood are never really exposed until the piece has been finished. I am very passionate about what I produce, and as wood is a natural product, no two pieces are ever the same. It’s no real surprise that people find my pens a thing of beauty and are willing pay to own a very unique writing instrument. Knowing that they are in the possession of people with great taste is an added bonus for me.
Hand Crafted
Produced entirely by hand in my Buckinghamshire workshop from indigenous and exotic woods. Bringing you quality handmade writing instruments, skilfully made for the discerning pen user, combining the warm tactile comfort of wood with the beauty only nature can provide.
All unique pens are turned by me, once turned; as many as 15 coats of various polishes are applied to assure a long lasting beautiful lustre on all my products. Due to the woods natural grain and pleasing aesthetics each pen becomes a uniquely personal gift or keepsake. All woods are sourced from eco-friendly companies and or recycled wood.
We have recently ventured into using alternative materials, such as Acrylic, Horn and Antler. These have proved to be extremely popular and create a very unique writing instrument. If you can not see what you are looking for on the website, just use the contact me page and give me the details of what you would like or just email me at david@pensunique.com and I will get back to you.
I hope your new pen gives you as much pleasure as it gave me in making it.
Thank you for your interest in my craft.
